Google Killed Link Building?
No matter what the business is there is
always going to be someone that
tries to make it better, faster, easier.
One place you can see the evidence is in the world of SEO.
There are countless methods out there to “beat” Google or
a secret loophole that some one has discovered.
No one knows for sure exactly what Google looks at to rank sites
but one thing has been true, the more relevant, high quality backlinks
you have pointing to your site the better it will rank.
So there has been every type of program to try and get you automed
backlinks that you can think of, but Google is not dumb it doesn’t
take them long to catch on and render any of these methods useless.
Don’t Put All Your Link Building In One Basket.
A lot of people that use these loops holes or methods that are working right now
will use them exclusively.
Then when Google comes along and makes a change, they are left with
literally nothing over night.
This was seen with the first big Google Slap, then again with the Panda update
and now the what is being called Panda.2
There are a lot of people out there that have been hailing private blog networks
as the ultimate backlink source.
They have put all their link building efforts into using these paid services that
are placing your links on a network of high ranking pages.
These have worked great and were thought to be untraceable by Google.
Well turns out they are.
One of the most popular private blog networks got all the sites in their network
de-indexed.
So just like that, over night everyone that was relying on this service, paying up to
$400 a month or more, have nothing to show for it.
Here is what Build My Rank said on their site about this
On a daily basis, we monitor our domain network to check metrics
like page rank, indexed pages, etc. As with any link-building network,
some de-indexing activity is expected and ours has been within a permissible
range for the past two years. Unfortunately, this morning, our scripts and
manual checks have determined that the overwhelming majority of our network
has been de-indexed (by Google), as of March 19, 2012. In our wildest dreams,
there’s no way we could have imagined this happening. It had always been BMR’s philosophy that if we did things a bit different from
other networks, we would not only have a better quality service to offer our users,
but a longer life in this fickle industry. Sadly, it appears this was not the case.
Should You Still Do Link Building For Your Sites?
The short answer is … YES!
Back links still play an important factor in your sites rankings. however consider
taking a different approach to your link building strategy.
First of all dont put all of your links in one basket, you want to get several different
types of links from different sources.
Diversity is an important factor that is often over looked, and it helps protect you
in the case that one of the sources gets slapped you are not left with nothing.
Next thing is to stop building links for the sake of building links.
Your link building should be done to get traffic. If you are focussing yoor efforts
on building links that will get you traffic then you win right away.
That’s the ultimate goal anyway isn’t it to get people to your site?
So build links that people will click, and the after effect will be good rankings.
Google does not penalize people for putting out good content in a natural way, every time
there has been an algorithm change those that have been effected the most
are those that are trying to game the system or they have all their eggs in one basket.
Avoid those two things and you will be successful with your link building.
